GETTING RID OF DISTRACTIONS AND HEARING GOD’S VOICE

Hebrews 12:1-3

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

There is so much noise in our lives nowadays – from social media, the news, busyness, and even what the people in our life are saying. There is a never-ending assault on our attention. The louder these voices become, the more we listen to these voices and the more we give them permission to affect our life. God’s voice is drowned out by the distractions and noise when His voice is the only one that matters. He is always speaking, but we can’t always hear because of all of the distractions and busyness.

Spending time reading your Bible, praying, meditating on Scripture, giving thanks, praising and worshiping the Lord are all ways we can fix our eyes on Jesus. But when we fast in addition to those things, it is like adding rocket boosters to our spiritual life and heightening our awareness of Him. We are emptying ourselves of all the worldly things that take up space in our lives and we are making room for Him to move in our lives.

The more we focus on Him, the less we are focusing on our desires and the traps of the enemy. We can move forward in what He has for us – His will that is good, pleasing, and perfect! That is where true fulfillment is found!

PRAYER:

“God, help me to focus my attention on You. Help me to let go of the things that tangle me up and trip me in my walk with You. Tune my ears to hear Your voice with clarity. Help me to follow You today with conviction so that I can walk in Your good, pleasing, and perfect will that is beyond what I can ask or even imagine.”

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Ephesians 3:30

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.
