Suffering produces endurance

Romans 5:3-5

“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

Although this scripture is used to describe an attitude that we should have when going through challenging times, it can also be applied to fasting.

This scripture creates a cause and effect that starts with suffering and ends in hope. The same could be said for the journey you go on in fasting. Fasting can be seen as a challenge or it can be seen as an opportunity to rejoice. Sacrifice happens in all challenges. Fasting is a challenge in which we can voluntarily sacrifice for the opportunity to rejoice and to produce endurance which spurs hope.

Fasting is a spiritual work out for us, it exercises and presents challenges purposely so we can grow in our endurance in our faith. Be encouraged in that although fasting can be challenging, there is great hope that is produced. Your sacrifices made in fasting will be honored and blessed by God.
